August 31, 2013 - Brian Kelly's 200th Win as head coach

Following the shortest off season break in the history of Notre Dame football (237 days from Jan. 7 to Aug. 31), Notre Dame squared off against Temple for their first career meeting. Eager to see how Tommy Rees would do back in the started role following Everett Golson's dismissal for the season, the 2013 season was a welcomed sight.

Notre Dame received the opening kick and promptly scored a touchdown in a minute and twenty-six seconds. Amir Carlisle broke off a 45 yard rush and DaVaris Daniels caught a 32 yard touchdown pass to cap off the three play drive. After a prompt three-and-out by Temple, Rees again put together a three play 87-yard touchdown drive. It opened with a 51 yard pass to T.J. Jones and finished once again with a 32 yard TD pass to Daniels. Less than five minutes into the game, the Irish already led 14-0.

Temple would miss a pair of field goals and an extra point, but their only sustained drives in the first half came about due to defensive penalties. Notre Dame would finish with 9 penalties in the game. The six points given up all game would be a little deceptive by the box score.

With Temple seeming to gain momentum going into halftime after closing the score to 14-6, Notre Dame immediately answered back in a one play drive with a 66 yard touchdown pass to Troy Niklas. This touchdown reception by the tight end is the third longest in Notre Dame history.

The win would be number 200 for head coach Brian Kelly. Kelly has compiled a 200-60-2 (0.767) record from Grand Valley State, Central Michigan, Cincinnati, and Notre Dame. This total includes a 29-11 (0.725) record at Notre Dame.

    Temple 0 6 0 0 6

Also with the win, Notre Dame has now improved to a perfect 4-0 record when playing in the month of August.
