October 15, 2005 - The Bush Push

Remember SCAfter a long week of anticipation, #9 Notre Dame (4-1) was finally about to play #1 Southern Cal. Students had put up signs all across campus to support the team. Signs were on the doors and the ground to "Stomp the Trojans." The pep rally on Friday night would be held in the Stadium and 50,000 fans attended. The rumors held true this time and Joe Montana spoke, along with Tim Brown. Game Day set up in front of the Library and the anticipation grew. The team warmed up in blue jerseys and then came out in green jerseys. We all know how the game ended and it went. There were many highlights including Zbikowski's punt return for a touchdown and Quinn's go ahead touchdown run. But one positive came from the game. Our good friend and student photographer wearing the bright orange shirt was in the perfect spot for a goal line picture. The picture would go on to appear in Sports Illustrated.

Wow, I had no idea that such message boards exist. At least you will forever be known for your orange shirt.

That's our boy! When he was working a game we would ask what he was wearing so we could look for him on TV. He certainly stood out that day. Many friends gave us their copy of SI so we ended up with several. And as I recall, that TD shouldn't have counted because of an illegal play or procedure. But it was a great game anyway.
