After sweeping the opening weekend in Philadelphia, the Notre Dame Fighting Alumni headed to Boston for the championship game of The Basketball Tournament. Mike Brey flew to Boston to support his former players and enjoyed dinner with the team and other alumni.

Their opponent, Team Barstool Sports, had been considered the favorite to win the tournament. Their team consisted of Andre Barrett (Seton Hall), Josh Boone (Connecticut), Dahntay Jones (Duke), and Matt Walsh (Florida). The first half saw many lead changes, but Team Barstool Sports led at half 40-35.
In the first eight minutes of the second, NDFA outscored Team Barstool 19-8 and led by 4. From that point on, it would be a close back and forth game, just as the first half was. With two minutes remaining, NDFA led by 1. They stretched their lead to 5 when 29 seconds remained. With under ten seconds to go and the five point lead, Ryan Ayers had a game saving block and Russell Carter pulled down the rebound. When the clock hit zero, the Notre Dame Fighting Alumni were victorious winning the first ever The Basketball Tournament 72-68.

As the celebration began, Luke Harangody and Tim Abromaitis stormed the court to celebrate with their former teammates. But they weren't the first ones down there - Mike Brey was already in the middle of the celebration.
The team won a prize of $500,000 to split amongst themselves. As previously agreed upon, they had set aside a portion to donate to Coaches vs. Cancer, a cause Mike Brey has annually campaigned for.
I got one question. Back to back? BACK TO BACK! Together on three.
By winning The Basketball Tournament 2014, the Notre Dame Fighting Alumni receive an automatic bid to TBT 2015. In addition, they will have a BYE until the "Super 17". This year's tournament will see the field increase from 32 teams to 96. There will be four regional sites with the four top teams of each regional moving on to the Sweet 16. NDFA will play the last team in on July 23, 2015 at 8pm ET on ESPNU live from Chicago.
With more alumni on board, the Notre Dame Fighting Alumni look to defend their title and win this year's prize of $1,000,000!
