December 11, 1968 - The first win inside the ACC
Notre Dame 57 Wisconsin 56
Sophomore Austin Carr scored 22 pts to lead the Irish to a victory over Wisconsin. Fellow soph Collis Jones had 13 pts and 14 rbs while subbing for injured team captain Bob Arnzen (out with an achilles tendon injury). Another soph Tom Sinnott sealed the win with a free throw with 10 sec. remaining. This was the first ever Irish win in the new Athletic & Convocation Center(ACC).
ND had lost the ACC Dedication game 4 nights earlier to #1 UCLA and Lew Alcindor 75-88.
Trivia: the real 'first Irish win' in the new ACC occurred in the preliminary game this 12/11/68 evening: the Notre Dame freshmen team defeated Northeastern Illinois State 84-63 (in the Frosh team season opener) behind 21pts from F Doug Gemmell.
