March 2, 2014 - The Perfect Regular Season
After defeating North Carolina State 84-60, for the first time in program history, the Women's Basketball team finished the regular season with a perfect unblemished record of 29-0. The team had come close before (28-1 in 2012-3, 28-2 in 2011-2, 26-1 in 2000-1) but no one got in their way this year. The team's average margin of victory would be a staggering 25.6 points per game while scoring 87.5 points per game.
Last year's team went a perfect 16-0 through the Big East regular season and the move to the ACC offered no greater challenge. The team again posted a perfect 16-0 conference record. Going back to last season, the team has won 52 regular season games in a row.
The current seniors can brag a 130-14 (0.903) career record, their freshman season bringing down the average by only going 31-8. The following seasons would post records of 35-4 and 35-2.
By winning the ACC regular season, the team goes into the ACC Tournament as the #1 seed and earned a double bye. This Friday March 7 at 2:00pm ET, Notre Dame will face the winner of the Miami-Florida State game. Notre Dame defeated Miami 79-52 and Florida State 81-60 in the regular season.
